In Major Girls, the Belle Harbor Bunkettes Angels and the Vintage Abstract Cubs locked up in another tight battle on a hot Saturday morning. The Cubs escaped with a 15-12 win.

The Angels raced out to a 6-1 lead with tablesetters Marina Cregan and Francesca Castellano each scoring twice. The Cubs battled back to tie in the third but Kim Slyuk quickly put the Bunkettes back in front with one mighty swing of the bat, crushing a three-run homer to right.

Trailing 10-8, the Cubs put up a 7-spot in their final at-bat with Michelle Wrynn scoring what proved to be the winning run. Renee Simos capped the inning with her third run of the game. The Bunkettes didn’t lie down, however. Madison Efron (three runs) and Shannon DiSilvia (two runs) sparked a last inning rally. Winning pitcher Jenny Fahy struck out the last batter with the tying runs on base. Kristie Carey struck out five in four innings for the Angels.

Cubs catcher Kelly Davan threw out her second would-be base stealer of the season.
