Hugs For The Heart
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

There is an EECP (Enhanced External Cardiac Pulsation) non invasive treatment for people with angina, heart failure, coronary artery disease and normal everyday activities which are challenging. Although it has been on the market for ten years, little known information has been around. However, I discovered Dr. Derek Enlander, MD at 860 Fifth Avenue has a machine and I tried it out. I call it

Hugs to the Heart” because you recline on a table with pads wrapped around your calves, thighs and hips and the machine squeezes them in and out, pulsating and stimulating the circulation of your blood. My blood pressure alone dropped enormously at the end of the session. For more information email endlandercfs@yah-oo.com SIXTY YEARS OF LOVE AND MARRIAGE

What is their secret? So many marriage fail today but I want to tell you about Eleanor and John McNamee of Breezy Point, an outstanding family of the community. They raised eight beautiful children, all married and produced 21 grandchildren, all living nearby. Congratulations! It will be 60 years of wedded bliss August 12 of this year and all members of the family will be there to celebrate. Many, many, more years to enjoy. I think half the secret is that they are two honest, upstanding, God fearing, dedicated people with hearts full of love.

What is on the agenda for Holiday Day Gift giving? At the Holiday Gift Show I came across these items: Smartshopper is an electronic gadget that prints out the list of groceries you will need to replace; the Green Professor is a perfect gift for the golfer to develop proper putter alignment. Every golfer should have one. Use at home or outdoors with or with or without a ball. www.greenprofessor.com; for the wine lovers the Soiree, is a bottle top, hand crafted, glass blown wine aerator; toys for cats include a little mouse on wheels, catnip, scratch-pad with feathers; Car MD diagnoses car problems and the fusion table which has a billiard set built into or underneath your dining table, and many more that will be out on the market in September for the holiday season.

I covered the seventh annual Respect Awards for GLSEN (Gay lesbian and Straight Education Network) at Gotham Hall where I met Chely Wright, recently on Oprah, who spoke of her childhood struggle with her orientation, how it went against her religion and all she was brought up to believe. Her book, “Like Me,” describes all she went through. Sireander Walker spoke of her child who was bullied in school and died by suicide. This is not humane and children should be taught in school to respect every human being no matter what he is. He/she is still a child of God.

The Buckley’s to Kennedy’s Run celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a fundraiser for Heartshare, which raises money for children with autism. In NY State, in a 10 year period, autism increased almost 400% among school children of which 70% are in NYC. They had a great turnout, almost 2000 runners and volunteers. After, they gathered at the Kennedy’s parking lot to enjoy the festivities.....live music and refreshments. The restaurant opened and I met Emon Charles who was bartender in the Paul Kavanaugh days; Arlene Smith who ran and Ed and Marge Scott and Jim and Christine Coleman who were volunteers at the run. Join your neighbors and friends next year for a great time and for a great cause.

I run into people from Rockaway all over this city. At Gracie Mansion last night Mayor Bloomberg presented the Fifth Annual “MADE IN NY” awards honoring the City’s Entertainment Industry. Award recipients included Angela Lansbury and Saturday Night Live with special recognition to closing TV show Law & Order and As The World Turns; HIS Productions, Inc., specializing in cutting edge commercials and music videos; Filmmaker Lee Daniels for his recent work including directing Precious which received six academy Award nominations, including Best Director (second time an African-American was honored for this achievement); Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, a not-for-profit community based enterprise and job training program in South Brooklyn, and WFT Productions, a full service digital agency based in NYC that creates mobile and web experiences. It was at this event Liz Smith of the Blue Bungalow on Beach 116 Street came up to me and introduced me to her husband Kevin Breslin. TRAVEL:

CROATIA, IS A LAND IN THE MIDST OF THE Mediterranean. With its mild climate it is a ideal recuperation and health resort for elite Europeans; first class hotels and luxury villas where the trendy Aristocracy of Austrian –Hungarian Monarchy came to holiday; the summer residences of Dubrovnik; the sheltered sanctuaries on the Dalmatian islands where the love of King Edward VIII for American Wally Simpson escalated to the point of the King’s abdication of the throne. It is known to be the best place for the elite to enjoy golf, tennis and polo year round and enjoy the strutting of peacocks and deer and, of course, sailing on the calm Mediterranean waters.
