James Thomas Sr.

Mechanical Technician

James Thomas Sr., 77, a longtime Rockaway resident, died May 19.

Thomas was born on April 18, 1933 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He worked as a mechanical technician and was a resident for more than 45 years. He was a member of First Church of God and was involved in Cell Group 11 and a member of the Usher Board. He frequented the JASA Brookdale Village Senior Center.

Thomas was preceded in death by wife, Jeanette Thomas and son, James “Buddy” (Beulah) Thomas.

He is survived by son, Ronald Craig (Mary) Thomas; daughters, Lillian Diane (Adrien) Thomas Sully and Sharon (Vellen) Thomas-Salter; grandchildren, Yolanda, Ronald, Aaron, Anthony, Marcus, Adrian, Antoine, Kimberly, Sharese, Saquan, Robert and Kaevon; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernice McMurrary and Josephine Stone; godchildren, Angel, Vanessa, Mary Alice and Joanie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A funeral mass took place at First Church of God, Far Rockaway. Interment followed at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, New York.
