Riis Park Memorial Day Bonfire

On Friday, Rockaway residents gathered at Riis Park to celebrate Memorial Day with an old fashioned bonfire.

Eighty people attended the beach to enjoy s’mores and hotdogs.

Ranger Linc welcomed families and friends to the first bonfire of the summer. He entertained the group with a brief history of Riis Park, and encouraged the children between 7 and 12 to become junior rangers. Rev. Eleni O. Marudis thought that many wonderful memories were made that night. “Age became timeless, meshed with the allure of the flames and laughter as parents were as excited as their kids,” she said.

The bonfire was such a success that the next one will take place next month on Friday, July 2, at 7 p.m.
