Bernard ‘Tom’ Byrne


Bernard “Tom” Byrne, a longtime Rockaway resident, died May 24.

Byrne was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the proprietor of Donnelly Plumbing Company. He served in the US Navy in 1951. Byrne served as the past president of Rockaway Rotary and past national president, charter and board member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. He also belonged to the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce.

Byrne was preceded in death by his wife, MaryJoan Peters; daughter, Peggy Ann (Missy) Byrne.

He is survived by his children, Michael, Timothy, Kevin, Kathleen, Daniel, Christopher, Brother Rev. Bernard M. Byrne and Sister Mary Ann Allaire; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral home service will take place on Friday May 28 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
