Jewish Association For Services To the Aged Fights For Senior Centers

Roy Reuther Senior Center and Brookdale Village participated in the Council of Senior Centers and Services Advocacy Day on May 12. This day was organized to protest the possible closings of 50 part-time senior centers around the city. Arthur Weber, president of the Brookdale Village Advisory Council, met with Ruth Brangman of Roy Reuther and their City Councilman James Sanders Jr. at his offices at 250 Broadway in Manhattan.

This building houses all the City Council offices and is directly opposite City Hall where a rally was held on the City Hall steps in the pouring rain. The seniors were accompanied by their directors Sydney Lombardi and Linda Solomon.

The seniors spoke to Sanders describing the senior center as their second home and saying what a tragedy it will be if any services were cut to NYC seniors. People who have worked all their lives to support these services, they say, would now be denied at the very time they need services and community most.
