Massive Response To EDP Who Threatened Mother


Officers from the NYPD’s elite Emergency Service Unit suit up to take positions around 54-22 Beach Channel Drive in the Ocean Bay Houses last Monday, when an emotionally disturbed man barricaded himself and his mother in apartment 5-H, threatening both his life and hers. Police were first called to the scene at 4:14 p.m. on May 17. They quickly called in ESU and the hostage negotiation team. Negotiations between the unidentified man and police went on until 6 p.m., when the man finally surrendered to officers, leaving his mother unharmed in the apartment. Police set up a large device designed to handle jumpers because they believed he might throw his mother out of an apartment window, or commit suicide.
