St. Edmund Prep Beats Christ the King in Golf
The St. Edmund Prep Varsity Golf Team knocked off Christ the King in a tightly played golf match on Monday, May 17 at Marine Park Golf Course. The thriller couldn’t be decided in regulation and had to be taken into extra holes.
Senior Andrew Prianti and junior Mike Maranga were all square in their respective matches and had to continue back to the first tee. The Eagles came out victorious after Prianti stuck a pitching wedge from 115 yards out pin high and 3’ left of the cup to win the second playoff hole to beat the Royals number one player.
Sophomores CJ Carey and Nick Saladino each won their matches enroute to the team’s 3-2 victory. Carey continues his strong season with another win and Saladino has been the upstart surprise of the season for St. Edmund Prep. Mike Maranga wound up on the South side of his match but has become one of the best ball strikers on the team and sophomore Nick Suslak played another strong match in a losing cause.
The young St. Edmund Prep Eagles did not qualify for the playoffs this year and will finish up their season against Holy Cross at Clearview Golf Course in Bayside, NY.
