BCAC Girls Move Up CYO Soccer Standings

The BCAC/St. Camillus Virgilius Girls 7th/8th Grade Soccer continued their improvement in the CYO Spring League with a strong 3-0 victory over St. Margaret on Sunday.

An excellent team performance was capped with an impressive first half hat-trick (three goals) from Brittany McGovern. She benefited from the excellent link up play from Erin Kelly, Hunter Hennessy, Bridgette Nolan, Alexa Gail and Savonna Sanzeri.

The scoreline could have been even more emphatic had some excellent attacking play from SCV been rewarded with a little bit more luck. Bridgette Nolan had a shot which looked bound for the top corner of the net but it somehow came off the inside of the goal post and bounced across the goal line to safety to the relief of the St. Margaret defense.

Teresa Rissmeyer used excellent footwork to cut through the St. Margaret defense on numerous occasions, but her fine attacking performance didn’t get rewarded with the goal she deserved with some fine goalkeeping from the St. Margaret stopper keeping her name off the score sheet.

The SCV defense was equally impressive and fine performances from Madison Francesca, Sydney Miller, Kara Spencer, Kayleigh Hurley and Eileen Doughty contributed to the shutout of a potent St. Margaret attack. Goalkeeper Megan Minihane, playing in goal because of the absence of Briana McCarthy, again proved that she is the best goalkeeper in the CYO League. She had made some excellent stops and completely dominating the penalty area. The shutout means SCV has now only conceded 1 goal in over 3 1/2 hours of soccer which has been the foundation of their playoff push.

After a disappointing start to the season with some injuries to key players SCV dropped to a 0-2 record but the team has since rallied and is now undefeated in three games putting them firmly back into playoff contention.
