Happy Mother’s Day At PS/MS 183
The PS/MS 183Q Parent Association celebrated their second annual Mother’s Day with poetry, a fashion show, dinner and special guest speakers. This year, their fashion show featured “Sunday’s Best, Business Wear, and Evening Wear” attire. A Mother’s Day video featured the school’s students expressing their love for their mothers. The guest speakers who were present included Maureen Hornung of the Addabbo Health Center and former NAACP president Lovette Glasgow.
Hornung praised her mother for her devotion to children and their causes. She has worked with members of the community for many years and helped prevent many family crises. Glasgow has served as a role model and community activist for decades. She remains involved in college scholarship programs for youth and works with District 27 in promoting parent involvement.
Both speakers encouraged mothers to be involved in the school system and their community. They spoke on the issue of children needing support outside their homes and in their schools through parent involvement. These two women proved to be great choices for encouraging their audience.
