Say A Prayer Of Thanks

Dear Editor,

I would like to comment on the acknowledgement of PO Robert Sorrentino’s death. It’s unfortunate that The Wave didn’t take the opportunity to better recognize this hero who gave up his life on the streets in Far Rockaway.

Maybe the residents would like to know that he could have transferred out of the 101 Precinct but chose to stay because it was a place where he could do the most good. In addition, maybe the residents would be interested to know that the family painstakingly goes to a parole board meeting every time the last surviving shooter comes up for parole because back in 1980 the laws were different, allowing scum like this to be released after 25 years.

Maybe the residents would like to say a prayer of thanks for the Sorrentino Center which takes at risk youth off the streets there. The Wave puts so much effort into “Historical Views” even asking residents to write in to the paper if they recognize a place.

The family looks for Police Officer Sorrentino to be acknowledged and in my opinion The Wave is so wrong especially on the “ 30th anniversary. This family is still heartbroken, their lives were forever changed. We were truly saddened by the little two sentence blurb about someone who meant so much and sacrificed so much.
