Keep The Ferry Running Letters

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Committee to Keep the Rockaway/BAT Ferry running, I’d like to thank the following local leaders and elected officials for their continued support of the Rockaway/BAT Ferry: Democratic Leader Lew Simon, City Councilman Eric Ulrich, City Councilman Vincent Gentile, City Councilwoman Sara Gonzalez, City Councilman James Sanders, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson, Assemblywoman Audrey Pfeffer, State Senator Malcolm Smith, and Congressman Anthony Weiner. Our thanks also to the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, the RDRC, and the Breezy Point Cooperative for their ongoing efforts to keep the ferry running.

I appeal to the entire Rockaway Peninsula to increase current ridership by taking the ferry, and to tell us how we can improve service by participating in our survey at www.survey monkey.com/s/B2Z69PK.

Is the ferry perfect? No. But it can’t be improved if it doesn’t exist. We fought for 18 long years to get the ferry for our transportation-starved peninsula. If it is allowed to go away, we’ll never see ferry service again.

Please get out and TAKE THE FERRY.
