Village Academy ‘Can Do Anything’

Village Academy students were celebrated during their first annual, “We Can Do Anything” Pep Rally. Parents worked in collaboration with teachers to plan the grand event. Each student was celebrated for her or his special talents, abilities and attributes. During the day students were challenged to answer academic questions based on the state standards and were adorned with “Smart Beads” for each correct question, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. Village Academy students and parents also had the opportunity to hear from an inspirational guest speaker. After joining the PENCIL program, a not-for-profit that partners schools with the private sector to change the lives of children, Village Academy was partnered with Patricia Robinson. Robinson is the Human Resources director for a wellknown radio station conglomerate. She spoke to students about her inspirational story of getting a job at the age of fourteen to help support her family and how education placed her on the “Path to Success.”

The principal stated, “This was an important day and I am proud that each of my students received an award. I believe it is important to not only celebrate academic success but also celebrate what makes each child special; that is educating the whole child and meeting their academic, social and emotional needs.”

After competitions, dance-offs, motivating speakers, recognition, balloons, prizes and, of course, cake, Village Academy families exited the building feeling exceptionally ‘peppy.’
