A street renaming ceremony to honor the memory of Rockaway icon Beverly Baxter has been set for 10 a.m. on May 15. The ceremony will take place at the corner of Beach 116 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

The stretch of Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 116 Street and Beach 108 Street will be named for Baxter, who was active in many artistic, civic and Irish-interest organizations.

In addition, Baxter was a columnist for The Wave, penning the weekly column “On The Beach” for many years.

A number of locals will speak at the ceremony, including City Councilman Eric Ulrich, who sponsored the street naming, Wave Editor Howard Schwach, husband Owen Baxter and Rosemary Sullivan, Baxter’s best friend and confident.
