Former Duke Star Rey Signs With Cincinnati Bengals
Vincent Rey, a former high school football all-city player who starred at Duke University, was signed on April 22 as a free agent by the NFL’s Cincin-nati Bengals. Born and raised in Far Rockaway, Rey attended and starred on the varsity football team at Bayside High School. He was named an all-city linebacker by the PSAL. After graduating from Bayside, Rey attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania for a year.
Rey became a starter at Duke University at his sophomore year and immediately became an impact player for the Blue Devils’ defense.
Starting at middle linebacker in his senior campaign, Rey was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 232 tackles. He was the only player within the league to record more than 100 tackles prior to his final season. Rey was named to the second team All-ACC team in 2009.
He will graduate in June from Duke University with a sociology degree and was recently named a recipient of the University Scholar Athlete award by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Rey made official workout visits with the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers before the draft.
The 6-foot, 240 pound Rey signed with the Bengals after the end of the three-day NFL Draft.He will take part this weekend in Cincinnati’s.
