Beach Volleyball League Holds Final Pre-Season Meeting
In preparation for the upcoming beach volleyball season, the final RBVL pre-season meeting was held on Thursday, April 22 at the Kerry Hills Pub. Rosters, uniform orders and payment in full ($650) were due at that time.
If your payment was not made in full on that date, you are late and the league fee is now $700, which includes a $50 late fee. Your hard working dedicated volunteers running the league gladly do many things but the thing they like least is chasing you down for money. The chasing ends this season.
If you have not paid in full by May 3, your spot will be given to a waiting list team. In case a team needs a roster or uniform order form, they are available on the RBVL website at www.rbvl.com.
Absent teams have until Sunday, May 2, at midnight, to deliver their money, rosters and uniform orders directly to Denise Brunner at her home at 418 Beach 131 Street. You can call her at 347-866-4570 to let her know you’re coming or just leave an envelope in her mailbox. But a late fee must apply with a balance of $600.
Early projections call for 8 different divisions with varying levels of skill. Look for 2009 champs, Sugar Bowl, Flip Cup All-Stars, Brooklyn Windows and Doors, the Bay House Babes, 3rd and Long NYC, Sets on the Beach, Coral Reefers and Atlantic Service Sand Storm to come back and defend their titles with runners-up, Freedhands, Big Mahooshkas, Sand Spikers, JG Electric, the Snotty Yachties, Average Joe’s, Bad News Bears and Last Call nipping at their heels.
Prospective new referees are always welcome and can contact the league officers via the website. You do not need to be a certified ref to work in the RBVL. In fact, many refs have been quite successful with a strong playing background (college and high school) and limited referee experience.
You can mark a few additional special dates on your calendars already. Wednesday, May 26 will be the first night of volleyball at the beach. It will be a practice night for all and uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate as it did last year.
Wednesday, June 2 will be opening day and play will continue every Wednesday until August 14. On that Saturday, the league championships will be played – keep your schedules clear. Every year it’s a blast!
Finally, it’s never too early to plan for the RBVL Awards Dinner. By popular demand, this year’s celebration will be moved from September to August, a week or so after the playoffs. The tentative date is August 20. Details will follow shortly. Remember, the RBVL is now on Facebook but unfortunately we don’t twitter. It will only be a short few weeks before opening day arrives and there is still much to be done beforehand. If you have any questions before the meeting call Patty Moule at 917- 613-0908 call between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. See you on the beach.
