100 PCT CC Visits Ocean Village Afterschool Program
Within the confines of the Ocean Village Complex there are a few special people who have been giving their time to utilize the Educational Center of the Ocean Village Tenant Association, for children to come together. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. many children ranging in age from 6 to 15 spend their time doing homework, exercising, playing pool (on a table in dire need of refurbishing), being given macramé instructions, playing ping pong on a table built by Bryant Peerson, or playing chess on the newly donated chess sets from the 100 Precinct Council Youth Committee.
The two men who organized this endeavor are Bryant Peerson, director and vice president of the Tenant Association, and Alvin Hines, assistant director. Billy Blair, president of the Tenant Association, oversees this children’s place. They function with other volunteer mothers who bring their children and help with all the children; even a grandmother stays to assist.
It is inspirational to see Ocean Village residents working hard to make a difference in children’s lives. However these valiant few need financial backing in order to offer these young people a variety of activities that they do not have the means to provide and additional helpers are needed. For now they continue their efforts to improve the quality of life for the children who are Ocean Village residents.
