A bust of the likeness of Jacob Riis, the famous author, photographer and muckraker, for whom the local park is named, has been missing from the park since 1964. On Saturday, a group of students from Riis’ home nation of Denmark joined a group of students from the Immaculate Conception School in Jamaica Estates to dedicate a new bust of Riis, now located at the Bay 9 Mall. The Immaculate Conception students had fundraised the money to commission the new sculpture.
The Honor Society from the Immaculate Conception School in Jamaica Estates held fundraisers to get sufficient money to hire a sculptor to make the new bust of Riis.
