NYCHA Queens Championships To Be Held At Hammels
The New York City Housing Authority will conduct the Queensborough Basketball Championships in the 2010 Citywide Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament this weekend at Hammels Community Center, located at 8114 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
The basketball tournament, which began in January, is open to boys and girls who reside throughout the city and in the local NYCHA Housing Developments; Ocean Bay, Hammels, Carleton Manor, Beach 41 Street Houses and Redfern.
Three divisional semifinal games will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. The divisions are 10 and under; 13 and under and 15 and under.
On Saturday, the semifinals begin with two games in the 13 and under division. Teams representing the Pomonok Houses will compete in each semifinal. They will take on Hammel Community Center, Team Deuce, Ocean Bay Community Center or Sorrentino. The previous four teams will have played each other with two winners moving on to play in Saturday’s semifinals.
In the 13 and under semifinals, Sports All Stars will play Pomonok#2 team at 12 noon. Team Deuce takes on Pomonok #1 at 1 p.m.
In the 15 and under division, Pomonok #1 and Pomonok #2 teams await the winners representing from Hammels Community Center at 2 and 3 p.m. The top two teams from the following group will compete in the semifinals; Hammel (Rob), Mika All-Stars, NY Finest, Team Deuce (B) or Ocean Bay CC.
The championship games will take place on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. at Hammels Community Center.
The citywide championships will be held on Saturday, April 17, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of City College in Manhattan.
