Charity Football Game Takes Place On Saturday
The FDNY Bravest will take on the Brooklyn Mariners semipro in a charity football game honoring the New York City Fire Department firefighter who perished in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001. The game will take place on Saturday, April 10.
The Danny Suhr Bowl will involve his former teams, who will compete against each other in a charity game to be held at 1 p.m. at Kings Bay Field on Voorhies Avenue and Coyle Street in Brooklyn. Tickets are priced at $10 and children will be admitted free.
Suhr was a Rockaway native who played linebacker and captained for the FDNY team from 1985 to 1997. Suhr was also a team captain and linebacker for the highly regarded Brooklyn Mariners, a semi-pro team.
A 50-50 raffle will also be held with Yankee ticket giveaways. All proceeds will be donated to the Danny Suhr Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 2002 to help students who would like to play football at a private school.
There will be a blood drive taking place prior, during and after the game from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. After the game, more funds will be raised with an after-party at the Mariners Inn, which is located on East 35 Street and Avenue S.
