Anthony Howard, 64, a longtime Rockaway resident, died March 15.
Howard was born on March 15, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia and worked for the New York City Police Department, reaching the rank of Inspector. On June 18, 1964 he completed recruit training and was enlisted with the USNR as rank of E-2 active duty and assigned to the USS Ticonderoga and later, the USS Essex. His time in the military included a tour in Vietnam in which he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Howard was preceded in death by his mother, Clara; father, Alvin; sister, Linda; and brother, Bobby.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Ebony, Naomi, Marcus, Robert and Victor; sisters, Marie (Leon) and Theresa; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends and neighbors.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Disposition took place at St. Michael’s Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
