NY Novas Rockaway Team Competes At Road Runner Jamboree
Two track and field athletes from the Novas Rockaway track team participated in the New York Road Runners Youth Jamboree A Track and Field and Wellness Event held on Saturday, March 27 at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
Many schools and track teams throughout New York City took part in the meets.
Tanya Saunders, an 11-year-old member of the Novas team, ran the 400-meter race in 77.8 seconds and finished in sixth place. Saunders also competed in the girls 4 x 200-m relay with the Novas Jamaica Team (Moriah Howard, Octavia Parker and Rushanna McLeod).
They finished the race in first place in 2 minutes and 4.13 seconds. Saunders ran an individual time in the relay of 32.8 seconds.
Daikichi Washington, 11 years old, came in first place in the long jump by breaking his own record, jumping 13 feet, 8 inches long.
They finished the race in fourth place with a time of 2 minutes and 7.18 seconds. Washington ran an individual time of 29.8 seconds in the relay.
