Charity Football Game Honors Fallen Rockaway Hero
The Danny Suhr Bowl, a football game honoring the New York City Fire Department firefighter who perished in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, will take place on Saturday, April 11. The Suhr Bowl will involve his former FDNY Bravest Football Club and Brooklyn Mariners semipro teams, who will compete against each other in a charity game to be held at 1 p.m. at Kings Bay Field on Voorhies Avenue and Coyle Street in Brooklyn.
Suhr was a Rockaway native who played linebacker and captained the FDNY team from 1985 to 1997. Suhr was also a team captain and linebacker for the highly regarded Brooklyn Mariners, a semi-pro team. A 50-50 raffle will also be held with Yankee ticket giveaways. Tickets are priced at $10 and children will be admitted free. All proceeds will be donated to the Danny Suhr Scholarship Fund. The fund was established to help students who would like to play football at a private school.
There will be a blood drive taking place prior, during and after the game from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
