Ezra Josephus Whyte
Ezra Josephus Whyte, a longtime Rockaway resident, died February 27.
Whyte was born April 11, 1930 in Essequibo, Guyana. He worked as an electrician at the Versailles Sugar Estate and as an electrical inspector with the Ministry of Works in Georgetown, Guyana. He came to the U.S. in 1982 and worked in the security department of Chase Bank until his retirement in 2002.
He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Andrea.
He is survived by his wife, Euclyne; daughter, Fay Mitchell; sons, Stanislaus, Lawrence, and Warren; grandchildren, Charwayne, Anthony, Andrew, Michael, Nelson, Aliayah Whyte, and Shada Mitchell; granddaughter in-law, Taboo Whyte; sisters, Estelle Stanton, Alma Villafana, and Gloria Robinson; brother, Mortimer Whyte; son-in-law, Patrick Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Donnette Whyte; nieces, Anona, Gwen, Bernadette, and Joyce; nephews, Lloyd, Courtney, and Brian; aunt, Shirley Robertson; and in-laws Enid, Eric, Bertel, Archibald, Rannie, Ester, Leila, Verna, Joyce, and Claude.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Disposition took place at St. Michael’s Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
