Good day, My name is Paula A. Ruble, I am a Site Property Manager in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York. On the morning of January 29, 2010 mail was delivered to my office 22-45 Dix Avenue by our regular mail carrier, Randy Jenkins. I noticed a man following the mail carrier who didn’t introduce himself. Randy explained to me that it was the postmaster, Mr. Tuohy and that it would be a good idea to discuss an issue I have been having with the mail. I asked the gentleman to step inside my office, that I needed to talk to him. Again, he did not introduce himself which I find to be extremely unprofessional. I continued to inform him that I was the Site Property Manager of this five building complex, that in one of my buildings the mail boxes were being broken into. Mr. Tuohy responded that I needed to call the postal police and that it was their matter, I tried to say more about the issue and also wanted to discuss the great job that our mail carrier, Randy, was doing. Mr. Tuohy brushed me off and said they were pressed for time and that I needed to call him the following week and walked out!
I have two floors of apartments that are not able to have their mail delivered, which made the mail carrier deliver the mail to my office, in return have me disperse them to the proper recipients. This matter had been going on for over three weeks. Mr. Tuohy not only disregarded me but disregarded a matter that is a federal offense for someone to break into mailboxes. I had already called the postal [police] and gave information for this investigation. The postal [police] to this day has yet to investigate anything on this matter. I, as the Site Property Manager, have had a camera installed solely looking upon the mailboxes as well as I have pulled out the mailboxes and refitted them with a new metal frame. Mr. Tuohy, did not bother at all to follow up with me on this matter. I believe that the treatment I have endured from the Postmaster and his office is unacceptable. My tenants and I spend a sufficient amount of time and money at the Far Rockaway Post Office, and I feel because where we are located is a poverty stricken community our issues go unanswered and disregarded. This letter has also been sent to Congressmen Gregory Meeks’ office.
