Elders Should Be Aware Of Scammers

Dear Editor,

My father, now in his 80s, has recently told me of three separate incidents of young men intimidating him at his front door in Neponsit. In each incident the men knocked on my father’s door following a snowfall, asked whether they could shovel his sidewalks, and when he said no they shouted obscenities. In one case they stole a show shovel from his home. Different men were involved in each incident.

I’m deeply concerned with this pattern of groups of young men preying on elderly Rockaway residents and threatening those who do not cooperate. I’d like to raise awareness of this issue. If all residents refused to hire these predators, they may cease their activities in the neighborhood.
