On Monday, March 15, the Peninsula Cup spring soccer league returns to Ft. Tilden. This year’s teams will be named in honor of the top countries competing in the World Cup this summer: Brazil, Great Britain, Argentina, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

Peninsula Cup is a collaboration between Blessed Trinity and St. Francis de Sales. It has grown steadily since its inception five years ago.

Last year, more than 600 local children participated.

The weekly schedule will be divided up by age and gender. The first grade division will be played on Mondays only. The second to the eighth grade boys division will play on Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday and Friday, the girls’ second through eighth grade divisions will take place.

In addition, during the first two weeks of the season, the boys divisions will have games on Saturday, March 20 and Saturday, March 27.

To follow the Peninsula Cup on a daily basis, go to the league website, http:// mysite.verizon.net/pencup2010, as it will contain schedules, standings, the FIFA Rulebook, links to soccer tutorials, weekly soccer rule questions and pictures from our various matches.

Players and parents can submit pictures to be displayed on the site by emailing them to pencup2010@ veri zon.net.
