SFDS CYO Boys Teams Advance To CYO Quarterfinals

It was another successful weekend for the SFDS CYO boys with four teams remaining in this weekend’s quarterfinals.

The Diocesan Final Four will be held on the weekend of March 20-21. The teams are hopeful they can succeed this upcoming weekend to advance to the next round of championship games. After a week off, the SFDS Pee Wee Blue will take on St. Margaret at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday at Corpus Christi. The Novices are also back in action at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday at St. Robert against Our Lady of Hope. The Rookies handled St. Joachim and Ann last Saturday, but now have a more difficult task taking on St. Teresa on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game will be held at St. Thomas Apostle.

The Intermediates cruised over sacred Heart of Glendale last weekend and advanced to the quarterfinals to take on St. Cecilia at 2:30 on Sunday at St. Kevin.

The Bantams concluded their CYO season with a hard fought third round loss to St. Vincent Ferrer. Trailing by one point in the waning moments of the game, St. Francis could not make the game winning play. Alex Goldberg’s ball handling and passing skills were evident as he easily handled the St. Vincent’s half court trap. Eion Reen was a defensive monster, as was Matt DeCrescenzo. Earlier in the week, the Bantams had defeated OLA 24-17. Goldberg scored 11 points and Kyle Connolly added four points. John Boyle was strong on the boards.
