Belle Harbor Hockey Boys Win LIAHL Championship

Luke Erhard and Chris Moore Luke Erhard and Chris Moore On Sunday, March 7, local boys Chris Moore and Luke Erhard, who play for the Greater New York Stars, won the LIAHL 11- Under Squirt division hockey championship.

The Stars fell behind 2-1 in the second period in the semifinal game on Saturday against the L.I. Green Machine Ice Cats at Abe Starke Arena. Chris Moore scored two third period goals and the solid goaltending of Luke Erhard held off the Ice Cats and sealed the victory to advance the Stars to the championship game on Sunday.

The Stars faced the Suffolk PAL Blue Knights for the championship. The Knights scored the first goal of the game in the first period, but once again the goaltending of Erhard who did not allow another goal the rest of the way, and the offensive play of Moore who had another goal and two assists, the Stars captured the LIAHL championship title by a score of 4-1. A credit to the Stars, who accomplished a season record of 47 wins, 8 losses and 5 ties. They were helped by the solid goalkeeping of Erhard, and Moore’s 57 goals and 43 assists for a total of 100 points. The Stars will defend their state title next week in Binghamton as they play for another chance at winning the New York State Hockey Championship.
