To MTA Chair Jay Walder
The following letter was sent by Assembly member Audrey Pheffer to
MTA Chairman Jay Walder: Dear Mr. Walder:
It was indeed a pleasure to speak with you last week and testify before the MTA Board at the Queens Hearing.
However, I feel compelled to once again call upon you to understand my community’s plight and implore you not to rescind the Rockaway/Broad Channel Resident Rebate Program.
As someone who grew up in Rockaway, you are well aware of the burden the Cross Bay Bridge toll causes for the residents and businesses in Rockaway and Broad Channel.
While the elimination of the toll for all is truly justified, and should be a goal of the MTA, until such time, the Resident Rebate Program relieves a burden from the communities that suffer the most.
I know that the MTA is facing a budget deficit that is unprecedented and that this year’s budget forecast remains dismal. However, as I stated last week, I am committed to working with you and my colleagues in Albany to address this urgent and vital issue affecting my community. I look forward to your visit to Rockaway so you may see firsthand the growth and revitalization the neighborhoods of your youth are experiencing.
AUDREY I. PHEFFER
