From The Artists Studio Rockaway Artists Alliance
Two RAA exhibits open this weekend with a reception Sunday, March 14, 1 – 3 p.m. Meet the artists, enjoy live entertainment and delicious ref-reshments as you view the artwork of “To Our Idols” and “Bodies of Work” in sTudio 6 and sTudio7, respectively. Admission is free. The exhibits run through April 3. Gallery hours can be found in the “Highlights” box.
A reminder that new classes for children and adults are being offered at RAA. Acclaimed singer/songwriter Greg Trooper will offer guitar instruction for children; Arianna Rose will teach a course on digital photography for children; Robert Bainbridge offers “Experience Watercolors with Bob Bainbridge, for adults.” Call the RAA office to reserve a spot now.
Former RAA vice president, Christina Jorge, is a participating artist in “Wide Open,” the latest art exhibition by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC). Jorge’s entry is a bronze sculpture titled, “Mister, Mister, Grab Your Sister.” The show is on view March 13 – March 28 on weekends only, from 1 – 6 p.m. The gallery, at 499 Van Brunt Street, is a beautiful huge open space that was once a warehouse on the historic waterfront of Red Hook, Brooklyn. The Meet the Artists reception is March 13, 1 – 6 p.m. An Awards Ceremony will be held at 3 p.m.
The national juried show displays 147 pieces selected from 1583 submissions by a prestigious panel of jurors. They include Anne Strauss, Associate Curator of 19th Century and Contemporary Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Mark Hughes, Director of Galerie Le Long, Chelsea; and Bill Murphy, Professor Gallery Director at Wagner College.
A feature of the exhibit is an Affordable Art Wall on which will be displayed more than 60 works, each under $500 in price. For more information: BWAC.org; 718-596-2506.
An art opening takes place this weekend: “The Fisherman Artist, The Works of Arthur Skowron. The exhibit is said to be for those who love fishing and love Rockaway. Well, I guess one out of two is OK, also.
There will be two receptions: Saturday, March 13, 5 – 9 p.m. and Sunday, March 14, 12 – 4 p.m. Both will be at The Beach Gallery, 114-24 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. For details and a preview of the artworks visit: TheBeachGallery.com. As you probably know from this column, The Beach Gallery is the home of Sunlite Studios, the workshop of master stained glass artist Patrick Clark. Clark provides a warm, inviting venue for the works of artists and artisans in his studio. So there is much to enjoy … and to purchase at the gallery; from handmade jewelry, to blown glass, to ceramics and more.
The Williamsburg Art and Historical Center is offering a new program to support qualified artists who desire but may not have had major exposure in an important context.
This summer artists will have the opportunity for a solo show or a group show with up to six participants, at the prestigious WAH Center in Brooklyn. WAH Center will publicize the exhibits through their email and website.
Accepted artists are expected to subsidize their show and there are various other requirements. Artists keep 100 percent of the sales they make.
For details and to decide if this opportunity is for you, email: firstname.lastname@example.org about Summer Exposé.
