Hayes Qualifies For Indoor Championship

Meghan Hayes Meghan Hayes Bishop Kearney’s track captain, Meghan “Hollywood” Hayes (Breezy Point), ran a personal best of 2 minutes 19 seconds in the 800-meter finals in the Eastern State Championship. The race qualified her for the National Schol-astic Championship, which will be held on March 14 at the historic Hall of Fame Armory Track. Hayes stepped up to the 3000- meter run at the USA Track and Field Regional Cham-pionship this past Sunday in preparation for this weekend’s state championship at Cornell University and the following week’s national championship.

Hayes did not disappoint her coaches as she won the race in a spectacular time of 10 minutes and 40 seconds. She took the lead from the sound of the starter’s gun and never looked back. The win broke Bishop Kearney’s fiveyear old school record previously held by former team captain Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor) who is presently a standout for the Fordham University track team.

The Bishop Kearney track team, along with the coaches, wishes Hayes the best of luck and success in the state and national championships.
