Jay Williams, 84, a longtime Rockaway resident, died February 19.
Williams was born on March 9, 1925 in Tuskegee, Alabama and worked as an x-ray technician.
Williams is preceded in death by her parents, Mack Williams and Katie Cox-Williams.
She is survived by her siblings, Ethel Lois Tarver of Birmingham, Alabama and Robert Williams of Detroit, Michigan; many nieces and nieces-in-law, Patricia Riggins of Montgomery, Alabama, Jackie Barbara Bo, Jeanetta Coley of Higganum, Connecticut, Anegla Williams of Orlando, Florida, Beverly Williams of Akron, Ohio, Sandra Sims-Williams of Milton, Massachusetts, Hazel Phillips of Maryland, James B. Williams (Junior) of Atlanta, Georgia and Monica Phillips of Toledo, Ohio, Chester Williams of Milton, Massachusetts, Leonard Collins of Cleveland, Ohio, Courtney Tarver and Harold Wiliams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Burnell Williams of Hawaii; cousins, Bernadine Twiggs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Lottie Cloud of Atlanta, Georgia; greatnephews, James (she called, “Prince”) Williams, Stephen Phillips, Robin Phillips, Justin Phillips, Benjamin Phillips and Barney.
She leaves her best friend, Louise Harmon, who took care of her needs in the declining years of her life. Thank you, Louise.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Glendale Cemetery, Akron, Ohio.
