The Ferry Is In Danger

Dear Editor,

The Rockaway ferry is in danger. I have ridden the ferry since it first started in May 2008. I have written a number of articles in this newspaper praising the Rockaway ferry service.

Imagine my surprise when I received a telephone call from a Daily News reporter asking for my reaction to news that Mayor Bloomberg was terminating the Rockaway ferry on March 19, 2010.

The ferry has been a success, providing a transportation lifeline to residents of our peninsula, which is starved for public transportation.

Letters Our elected representatives, particularly Mayor Bloomberg in November’s close election, would not have won their elections without us. They cannot be allowed to take away the ferry we fought so hard to get. The continuation of ferry service is the key issue for residents of our peninsula. It is vital to community.

We need to make the most noise we can and insist that our elected officials save our ferry.

Please write letters to the Mayor, Congressman Weiner, Councilman Ulrich, and all our elected officials and tell them in no uncertain terms that the Rockaway Ferry must continue to run.
