Beloved Dr. Seuss Is Coming To Fort Tilden
Members of the Rockaway Theatre Company’s Young Actors Workshop have been very busily making final preparations for this week’s opening of their big stage production of Seussical Jr., The Musical. The show is a special musical conglomeration of the ever popular Dr. Seuss stories for children and will be performed entirely by children ages 7-14. The forty-two youngsters registered in the workshop will sing, dance and act for six exciting performances which will begin on Friday evening, March 5, and run for two consecutive weekends on the stage of the Post Theater at Fort Tilden.
Seussical, Jr. is the culmination of the RTC’s five month-long Saturday morning Theatre Program which ran, this season, under the guidance of Workshop Director Peggy Page and Music Directors Jodie Timpone and Rich Louis- Pierre. The team has worked with the youngsters honing their acting and vocal skills during workshop sessions over the past five months. Catherine McEntee, an experienced actress, served as improvisation coach, helping students to lose their inhibitions and let their imaginations guide them on stage. Dr. Seuss’ trademark characters are brought to life in the amazing and colorful costumes created by Matthew Smilardi, who takes over the position of lead costumier for this production, and in the terrific dance movement furnished by RTC dance veteran Michelle Micale, who is the production’s choreographer. The most important factor in this production is, of course, the very talented and dedicated youngsters who comprise this amazing cast. These kids have learned to blend their talents and work together as a team. No doubt it will be worth the effort when they take to the stage this weekend and receive the reward for which every actor works … APPLAUSE!
There will be one Saturday matinee on March 13 and a Sunday matinee on March 7, both at 2 p.m. This is a fantastic show for the entire family. Reservations can be made by calling the RTC Hotline at 718-374-6400 or online at www.rockawaytheatrecompany.org Tickets for this production, at only $10 each, are going fast.
