St. Rose of Lima Enjoys Great Basketball Season

The St. Rose of Lima fifth grade boys’ basketball team continued their season post holidays the same way they started- winning.

St. Rose beat OLMM, 33-17, in the team’s first game after the holiday break. The scoring was led by Isaiah Brown with 21 points and Tom Collins had 8 points.

The next game for St. Rose was a 36-27 win over St. Pancras. The scoring was again led by Brown with 24 points. He was assisted in the win by CJ Gallagher with 5 points, Collins with four points and Sebastian Sheppard with two points. The following game was a win over St. Adal-bert, 32-10.

The scoring was led by Matty Schoenfeld with 10 points, Gallagher contributed with 9 points; Keith Servello had two points, and a beautiful shot by Dennis Cortez for two points.

Next came a 35-14 win over St. Rafael’s. The scoring was led by Brown with 21 points. Schoenfeld had 8 points and Kieran Mills contributed with 2 points. St. Rose moved to 10-0 with a 27-19 win over Gate of Heaven. Brown led the scoring with 9 points, Collins and Gal-lagher each had six points, Schoenfeld had four points, and a nice basket came from Michael Mure for 2 points.

St. Theresa handed the first loss of the season for St. Rose of Lima in a hard fought 40-38 defeat. It was close throughout with St. Theresa winning at the end. Brown led his team with 26 points. Schoenfeld had 6 points, Gallagher contributed with 4 points and Collins had two points.

St. Rose bounced back with a win at home against Holy Trinity 39-27. Brown had 26 points in the victory.

The team was able to avenge its only loss with a 41-33 win over St. Theresa at home. Brown led the scoring with 31 points, Schoenfeld had four points and two points each came from Collins, Servello, and Gallagher.

The final game of the season for St. Rose was a 27-17 win over Gate of Heaven. Gallagher led with 12 points, Brown had 11 points and Collins contributed with four points.

Coach Walsh and Coach Collins would like to thank all the players who contributed to the team’s 13-1 season; Isaiah Brown, Matt Schoenfeld, CJ Gallagher, Keith Servello, Christian Pires, Dennis Cortez, Tom Collins, Kieran Mills, Thomas Rogers, Sebastian Sheppard and Michael Mure all showed good play and sportsmanship. They would also like to thank Donald Gallagher for his bookkeeping, Margaret Gallagher for all her hard work in the kitchen and Jackie Brown for her boisterous sideline support of all the players!

The playoffs start this week.
