Local Arrested On Felony Charges
A Far Rockaway man was arrested last week on federal felony drug charges after police found him idling in an illegal parking space along Interstate 87 near Schroon Lake, New York, according to published reports.
State Police on routine patrol spotted the 1997 Acura Integra parked on the night of February 8 at around 9:30 p.m., in a southbound lane of the interstate.
When police approached the vehicle, Pedro Pelaez Dubon, 21, of Far Rockaway, failed to produce identification or vehicle registration, according to State Police.
As a result, Dubon, who does not speak English, according to State Police, was taken into custody at 9:35 p.m. Monday, February 8 on a federal felony charge and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
The federal felony charge stems from the fact that Dubon failed to provide documentation proving citizenship and was charged with criminal possession of stolen property because he allegedly failed to provide documentation of his ownership of the Acura, State Police said.
In addition to the criminal charges Dubon was also fined for traffic infractions, including operating a vehicle without insurance, registration, proper license plates or a driver’s license. He was turned over to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
