Peggy Boyle Tournament At St. Francis Begins Saturday

The 12th Annual Peggy Boyle Girls Basketball Tournament begins this Saturday at St. Francis de Sales. Blessed Trinity Subnovice will open the tournament with a game against St Adalbert followed by St. Francis Gold against St Stanislaus-Maspeth.

Pee Wee action is next with Good Shepherd taking on Long Beach Catholic at 2:00 p.m. and then St. Francis Gold against Our Lady of Grace. St. Francis Novice hosts St. Patrick at 4:00 p.m. and St. Francis Rookies take on Gate of Heaven at 5:00 p.m. The day ends with St. Rose against Epiphany at 6:00 p.m. in the Intermediate division.

There are no games on Sunday as many teams will potentially be playing in the CYO Diocesan championships. The tournament continues on Monday and Wednesday with games at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The remainder of the schedule is February 27 and 28; March 1, 3, 7, 14, and the championships will take place on March 20.

The St. Francis gym will be decked out in celebration. There will be performances by the SFDS Cheerleaders, and as always, the kitchen will be open to quench your thirst and your hunger. There will be a Special Awards ceremony on Championship Day at 3:45 p.m.

The CYO Girls Diocesan Final Four is also this weekend. St. Francis Pee Wee Blue takes on St. Mel at 11:15 a.m. this Saturday at St. John’s Prep. The winner plays for the championship on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. also at St. John’s.

The Novice girls face peninsula rivals Blessed Trinity White in Saturday’s 10:00 a.m. semifinal at Molloy. The championship is Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at St. John’s Prep. The Bantams face a tough task with St. Stanislaus first on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at St. John’s Prep with the championship Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The boys begin their playoffs this weekend as well. The Pee Wee Blue goes to St. Joan of Arc Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to play St. Gabriel. The Gold plays St. Robert at 12:00 p.m. at St. Clare. The Novice also plays St. Robert, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows. The Bantams have a 5:45 p.m. date with St. Anastasia at Sacred Heart of Glendale. The Rookies play St. Andrew Sunday at 6:15 p.m. at St. Sebastian. The Intermediates play St. Robert Sunday (6 p.m.) at Sacred Heart.

Come out to St. Francis de Sales Gymnasium (Beach 129 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard) and support the teams in the playoffs, championships, and the Peggy Boyle Tournament.
