Organic Food Program Coming To Rockaway
A new community program that will bring fresh organic food to the Rockaways will be introduced at a workshop that will be held by Culinary Kids CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture). The program will provide farm-fresh organic fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, cheeses and wines on a weekly basis. Individuals will sign up and pay reasonable fees for the 20-week program. To find out more everyone is invited to the workshop which will be held on Friday, February 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The workshops will be held at the Teaching Center at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, which is located at 277 Beach 19 Street at the corner of Plainview Avenue, Far Rockaway.
“Better food is vital for good nutrition,” says Chef Malisa Rivera, founder and executive director of Culinary Kids CSA. “Organic food is healthier because of the way they are cultivated and grown. The main drawback can be that it’s expensive - but with community supported agriculture and a share program it can become much more affordable.”
Community-supported agriculture is a “share program.” Consumers buy into the entire growing season which runs from June to November and will pick up fresh organic produce on a weekly basis from Culinary Kids CSA, which is located in Edgemere. Many types of shares are available. For more information please contact Culinary Kids at 327-321-0423 or email them at culinarykidscsa@ yahoo.com.
