Donations from Joseph Muré, Jr. his family, friends and organizations, have enabled Peninsula Hospital Center to retain the services of Constance Stewart, MD, a physician who specializes in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology. Dr. Stewart sees children in the Family Health Center and manages pediatric diabetes cases, insulin dependent diabetes, pediatric obesity, failure to thrive, acquired hyperthyroidism and congenital hyperthyroidism.

The pediatric diabetes services have grown substantially since Dr. Stewart began seeing pediatric patients in the Family Health Center in 2004. According to the health records maintained by the Family Health Center, more diabetic children in the Rockaways are thriving because of the attention given by Dr. Stewart to her patients.

Dr. Stewart spends considerable time with each pediatric patient as well as the patient’s parent or guardian to address not only the direct management of the disease, but nutrition, exercise and weight management.
