Weiner To Host West End Town Hall Meeting
The latest meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 16 at PS 114, Beach 135 Street and Cronston Avenue in Belle Harbor.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 sharp, a Weiner spokesperson said. It will end at 8 p.m.
Weiner says that his town hall meeting will answer constituent questions and discuss the latest news and issues from Washington D.C. Weiner will be joined by top brass from the Army Corps of Engineers who will be on hand to talk about their strategy for restoring Rockaway’s eroding beaches— a plan championed by Weiner and Rockaway residents.
“There are a number of important issues—both local and national—that need to be addressed, and that’s why this town hall meeting is so essential,” Weiner said. “From discussing issues like replenishing Rockaway’s beautiful coastline, to health care reform to tolls on the Cross Bay Bridge and ferry service, this wide-ranging conversation is what democracy is all about. I encourage everyone to attend.”
Weiner has been instrumental in securing funds to help repair eroded Rockaway beaches, and his efforts in Congress have led to the restoration of 80 acres of marshland in Jamaica Bay. Last year, he convinced the U.S. Coast Guard to hold public hearings in Rockaway on the proposal to build a liquid natural gas terminal 17 miles off the Queens coast. Weiner has also been one of the most vocal supporters of ferry service to the Rockaways.
