St. Francis Hosts Annual Connecticut Teams

The regular season for CYO Boys Basketball comes to a close this weekend. The girls are off this weekend preparing for the Diocesan Final Four on February 20 and 21. On Saturday, St. Francis will host teams from South Windsor and Southington, Connecticut, continuing this series and tradition for more than 20 years.

The schedule begins with the Rookies taking on South Windsor at 2:30 p.m. followed by the Intermediates at 3:45 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. Southington matches up with the Novices and at 6:15 p.m. the Bantams finish by facing South Windsor.

Twenty-nine teams from 15 parishes comprise the field for the 12th Annual Peggy Boyle Girls Basketball Tournament.

The teams come from Brook-lyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Long Island. Games begin on Saturday, February 20, Sunday, February 21, and Monday, February 22. See this space next week for a detailed schedule.

In games this past weekend, SFDS Bantams defeated OLG 31-7. Erin Reen started the Bantam attack with dazzling drives to the basket to score 7 points. Alex Goldberg sealed the deal with 8 points, with 6 of the points coming in the fourth quarter. James Corrigan shined on defense and pulled down many rebounds. Christian Apice used the glass to pull down 6 re-bounds.

On Sunday the Bantams defeated St. Rose 42-28. Alex Goldberg scored 12 points and Ethan Ruiz scored 6 on terrific drives to the basket. John O’Connor controlled the boards and Matt DeCrescenza was a terror on defense.
