Hockey Players Honored at St. Edmund Prep
Rockaway residents Ryan Rayder and Tim Horgan were honored along with fellow seniors Joe Calabrese and Sal Annunziata on Friday, February 5 at St. Edmund Prep Hockey’s senior night. The event marks the last regular season home game for the senior players on the ice hockey team.
Rayder has played on the varsity team for four seasons and was a member of the undefeated city championship team of 2007. He has been a tireless “team first” player his entire career and is the co-captain of this year’s squad.
Horgan made the team as a sophomore and played goal for the team for two seasons before moving to forward for his senior year. He still serves as the emergency goaltender for the Eagles and is expected to start in net for the season finale vs. Spellman High School.
Calabrese and Annunziata are both four year players and also played on the 2007 city championship team. Joe is the team’s other co-captain and is the team’s most prolific scorer.
The fun ended for the St. Edmund Pre seniors after the opening ceremonies as the team lost to St. Francis Prep 5-3. The loss coupled with several consecutive wins by St. Joseph by the Sea High School ended St. Edmund’s chances of finishing the regular season in first place.
The Eagles have clinched a playoff berth and are finishing off the regular season gearing up towards a strong run in the Catholic High School Hockey League (CHSHL) playoffs. St. Edmund Prep will play St. Joseph by the Sea High School on Sunday February 14 at 6:45 p.m. in Clove Lake Arena on Staten Island.
