Unidentified Woman Dies In Apartment Fire

An apartment fire at 19-15 Seagirt Boulevard resulted in one fatality earlier this week, The Wave has learned. The fire, which was contained to the kitchen in apartment 8E, was called in at 5:12 p.m. and quickly extinguished. Firefighters attended to the elderly woman living in the apartment, but she was DOA. “Her clothes caught on fire while cooking,” said a fire department representative.

An autopsy was performed on the woman, 92, but a spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s office said the cause of death is “pending further study,” adding, “We will be doing further testing and investigate to determine the [cause of death].” According to an FDNY representative, 12 units, 60 firefighters, responded to the early evening fire.
