FR Man Charged With DWI, Vehicular Manslaughter
      A Far Rockaway man has been charged with manslaughter following a crash that killed a passenger in his car in Cedarhurst last Saturday morning, according to Nassau police. Gehlert Barrios, 20, of Far Rockaway, was driving his 2004 Nissan southbound on Rockaway Turnpike when he rear-ended a 2009 Ford van near the corner of Rugby Road at 4:30 a.m., police said.

Meeting Held To Develop Master Plan For Rockaway
      After years of having developers and the city decide what Rockaway needs, a group of community members and representatives of civic groups are taking the bull by the horns to decide if a master plan of priorities for the peninsula should be developed. On January 30, approximately 50 area residents attended a meeting at Peninsula Hospital Center to take up the issue and brainstorm ideas.

Two Males Shot Over Weekend
      The weekend was marred by a pair of shootings in Arverne, both of which left the victims hospitalized and police seeking the unknown gunmen. Last Saturday at 12:10 a.m. police responded to a call of a male shot near 528 Beach 67 Street. The 21-year-old unidentified man was shot once in the left shoulder by an unknown perpetrator.

Unidentified Woman Dies In Apartment Fire
      An apartment fire at 19-15 Seagirt Boulevard resulted in one fatality earlier this week, The Wave has learned. The fire, which was contained to the kitchen in apartment 8E, was called in at 5:12 p.m. and quickly extinguished. Firefighters attended to the elderly woman living in the apartment, but she was DOA.
