Dick McGuire, 84, a former Rockaway resident, died February 3.
McGuire was born on January 26, 1926 in Rockaway Beach. His father was the proprietor of McGuire’s Bar, which stood where Snug Harbour Restaurant is today on Beach 108 Street. Each summer, McGuire, a Hall of Fame NBA basketball player for the New York Knicks, would bring the top basketball players to Rockaway for pickup games on the site that now hosts the Rockaway Rockies skating rink at the western end of Shore Front Parkway. McGuire was involved in the New York Knicks organization as either a player or consultant for 53 years.
He is survived by his wife, Teri; four children and seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
