No Pickup Of Recyclables On Holidays

Dear Editor,

I live on Beach 149 Street in Neponsit and this morning, Tuesday, January 19 at about 9:15, I took a walk after leaving my grandson Nicholas off at the West End Temple. I proceeded south on Beach 147 Street to the ocean which was about three and a half blocks. I proceeded to walk west on the beach to 149 Street, about three and a half blocks north of the beach.

What I noticed during my walk was about 14 homes with their recycling garbage on their property or in the street. The recyclables were either in cans or tied neatly. Their regular garbage was picked up by the Department of Sanitation. The reason the recyclables were not picked up was due to the fact that Monday, January 18 was a federal holiday, namely Martin Luther King Day, and the Department of Sanitation does not pick up recyclables a day after a holiday, when the holiday is on a Monday which is the regular day of the pickup of the recyclables. The recyclables are picked up the following Monday, which would be the next regular pickup day.

Please be aware of this information to avoid taking out and brining back your recyclables to no avail. I can trust attempting to help my fellow neighbors.
