An All-Time Low

Dear Editor,

I write this letter on behalf of the wonderful Cassidy family. I feel The Wave has hit all time lows by putting that story on the front page of the paper this past week.

It infuriates me along with many, many people I know who realize what a wonderful, caring and thoughtful mother, daughter, sister and friend Sheila Cassidy is to many people along the entire Rockaway peninsula.

I am sure your aim is to “sell more papers” but perhaps if you would have focused on the wonderful human being she is, the caring and strong mother she is to her beautiful children, and a pillar of her community that she is, you would get much higher readership than publishing a story that does not in anyway, define who she is. The entire Cassidy family deserves better. We as readers of your publication deserve better content than that. Shame on you Mr. Schwach. After being a longtime reader, as were my parents and grandparents, I urge you to reconsider the content you publish in every way. Find the good in people and publish stories pertaining to that. If you do, you may even double or triple readership.

The story you ran was in poor taste as it rips a scab off a freshly healing wound a wonderful person has had inflicted on her entire family. We as readers deserve much better than that. And the least you can do is issue an apology for the harm you may have caused. Do the right thing. I trust that you will. Best of luck.

JOE FITZGERALD
