Stella Maris Basketball Climbs Back To .500

Stella Maris evened their record at 3-3 in CHSAA Division II league play with a decisive 51-25 victory over St. Agnes on Saturday.

Alison McGovern led all scorers with 13 points (12 in the third quarter). McGovern, whose nickname is “Hook”, has been working on her footwork on her version of the Lew Alcindor hook shot and achieved much success. Freshmen Stephanie Hahn, Erin Blum and Regina Paskoff exhibited the aggressive, intelligent play that has been expected of them as they tackle the varsity level play for the first time.

Hopefully, this game proves the turning point in what has been a tough season for the Lady Flippers. Next up for SM is a game against Tottenville High School at home on Friday, January 29.

Flipper Footnotes: Ashley Raaf continued her assault on 1000 points by hitting for 10 in limited action. Jen Miller, on her way to 1000 rebounds for her HS career, grabbed 10 more during the game also in limited play. SH, you did the sneakers proud!

Congrats to Mrs. G’s bantams on their playoff win. And a huge shout out to the fifth graders of SFDS and coach Randy on a great time as they had the awesome opportunity to play at Madison Square Garden!!!
