Artists In Residence’ Continues At West End Temple

On January 23 and 24, Mari Meade Dance Collective presented the premiere of Community: Ratio at the Clark Theater in Lincoln Center to an enthusiastic full house. The dancers were intense – they told a unique story through their outstanding movements. The energy and passion that was displayed through movement was said to be remarkable.

Choreographer and director of Mari Meade Dance Collective, Mari Meade collaborated with her colleague Gregory Miles Hoffman (composer) to create an original music score and dance made possible through the Kenan Fellowship. Hoffman and Meade are William R. Kenan, Jr. Performing Arts Fellows at Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education. Meade graduated from University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2009 with a BFA in Contemporary Dance, and was awarded the Betsy Friday Scholarship. Her company members are dancers Allison Beler, Allison Cave, Kevin Fay, Breanna Gribble, Amanda Hinchey, Kathryn Logan, Rachel Rizzuto and Laura Guiterrez. The costumes for Community: Ratio were designed by Marc Witmer who has worked for notable New York labels such as Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, and Nicole Miller.

Laura Guiterrez and Mari Meade will be “Artists in Residence” at West End Temple, teaching an introduction to modern dance, which will include a brief overview of dance. Students will learn about modern dance, and will learn how to create innovative movement. Registration will be on Sunday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., January 31 at West End Temple. Classes begin Monday, February 1. If you have further questions, please call 917-306-8729.
